Walking Netball Success in Belfast

On Monday 6th October 2025, 2 teams from Jersey competed in a walking netball tournament hosted in Northern Ireland. 8 other teams from Belfast and Edinburgh participated in the event and the atmosphere was one of excitement and anticipation.

Both Jersey teams started off strong and fought hard throughout, managing to hold onto the lead, game after game, and winning all matches in their respective Groups. There were many impressive interceptions particularly from Claire Rouault and Tracy O’Regan and fantastic shooting skills – Jayne Marshall and Tina Duckworth were outstanding. Both Jersey teams got to the semi finals and won against their opponents. The end result was a Jersey versus Jersey final and success for our club!

The whole event was wonderfully organised with Belfast City Council providing amazing food and refreshments to keep everyone going during the entire day until the tournament closed later in the afternoon with a netball shoot out, the presentation of the trophy to the winning Jersey team and prize to the best shooter (Paula Every) and the handing out of gift bags of Jersey goodies to the two players of the match – one from Belfast and the other from Edinburgh – and to the event organiser, Betty Wilson, NNI HIYN Officer.

The umpires, scorers and time keepers did a fantastic job and everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The sportsmanship shown throughout the day was tremendous and although there was clear friendly rivalry, everyone cheered for each other and supported whichever teams were on the court. With parting hugs and promises to come to Jersey to play us on our turf, we left with trophy in hand and smiles all round. We hope to be able to reciprocate their generous hospitality and host a walking netball tournament in Jersey soon.
