The ORA Winter League continued on Monday evening, with 24 teams taking to the court to gain points on their respective score boards.
In Division 1, newly promoted St Saviour A did themselves proud in their encounter againstSt Lawrence A. Although St Lawrence took an early lead, which they held throughout the match, St Saviour kept up their momentum, playing with enthusiasm and drive. Sharp shooting from Player of the Match Trinity Smith enabled St Saviour to hold their opposition to a 13 all draw in the 2nd quarter. St Lawrence’s young shooter, Sofia Hussey, embraced the switch from GS to GA, showing a maturity in her play far exceeding her year. Her shooting stats were superb for the second half of the match. However, it was St Lawrence’s Player of the Match, GK Jo Woodham, who sealed the fate of St Saviour, taking control in the final phase, denying both shooters the opportunity to lessen the deficit, achieving multiple turnovers and rebounds and allowing her side to forge ahead to a 61 – 30 victory.
In Division 2, St Brelade A’s experience was evident from the beginning, as they established a commanding 16-4 lead by the end of the first quarter against St Ouen A. St Ouen showed resilience in the second quarter, with Mary Surcouf-Johnson (C) and Julie Gould (WA) providing key passes to shooters Katie De La Cour and Heidi Freitas who was making her St Ouen debut, but were unable to significantly close the deficit. St Brelade continued to show strength in defence, with Player of the Match Amanda Clarke (WD) proving to be an issue for St Ouen’s around the attacking circle. St Brelade extended their lead further in the third quarter, maintaining control of the game. St Ouen finished with a strong final quarter, following the addition of Lauren Byrne at Goal Shooter. Despite the effort of St Ouen’s Player of the Match, Lisa Neil (GK), St Brelade secured a decisive 54-27 victory over St Ouen, with a strong performance from start to finish.

Elsewhere in Division 2, a dramatic game saw St Lawrence B and Accies C staying neck and neck for the entire 60 minutes. Both teams were evenly matched, with decisive defensive effort at each end to make it difficult for either team to pull ahead. Strong shooting from Accies allowed them to just pull ahead, although this was not made easy for them thanks to the relentless defence from St Lawrence Player of the Match Shannon Carr. Accies snatched the win in the dying minutes, ending the game 44 – 42.
In Division 3, it was a battle of the Western parishes for St Brelade and St Ouen, with St Ouen B taking on St Brelade C in a competitive game of determination, grit and teamwork from both sides. St Ouen B started strong, with connections evident across the court, allowing them to take an early lead. Lauren Byrne (GK) and Sarah Ramasawmy (GD) were strong in defence; however St Brelade were able to keep themselves in the game thanks to the outstanding shooting from Lolly Walters and Isla Singleton-Riley. At the other end, Sarah Attwood and Jasmine Le Lievre (Player of the Match) were a dynamic duo for St Ouen, moving quickly around tough defenders to find space under the post. St Brelade continued to apply pressure in the mid-court, with numerous interceptions and challenges from Sammy Keen (WD) earning her the Player of the Match accolade for her side. St Ouen continued to push forward, and ended the game with a comfortable 36-22 win.

Hot on the tails of their club mates, a seasoned St Brelade B brought it all to the court against a largely new St Ouen C side. From the first whistle, St Brelade set a strong tempo and maintained it throughout, showcasing great teamwork and determination.
St Brelade’s shooters were on absolute fire tonight, with joint Player of the Match Brody Morris (GS) and Skye Clifford (GA) displaying fantastic movement around the D, linking up beautifully and showing excellent shooting chemistry to convert chance after chance, despite the strong efforts from St Ouen’s Katie Le Herissier and Demelza Noblet.
Midcourt, the pace was relentless, with St Brelade controlling the game with sharp passing, quick transitions, and some impressive intercepts that disrupted St Ouen C’s flow. Despite the challenges, St Ouen continued to push forward, finding space and moving the ball to their shooters thanks to the efforts of Kerry Roche (Centre) and Natasha Gaudin (WA). St Ouen’s Katherine Wilson was everywhere, providing crucial support and challenge as Wing Defence to earn the Player of the Match title.
Defensively, St Brelade B held strong, applying constant pressure and keeping the St Ouen shooters on their toes. Every turnover was fought for, and the defensive unit of Ashleigh Taylor and Talia Morris worked tirelessly to shut down opportunities. However, St Ouen continued to fight, with impressive strength from GS Emily Hopkins, who rallied her fellow attackers Harriet St Pier and Mel Noon to find space and push through.
It was a brilliant all-round team performance, ending with a convincing 52–19 win to St Brelade B.
